Kirra really likes to pick her own outfits these days. I tried to explain that it's 100 degrees and she doesn't need leg warmers, a sweater and a scarf but apparently fashion is more important than cover.

Craft Attempt #1
No posts for weeks and then two posts in one day! Crazy, I know!
Ken was out of town for a few days this week so I decided to stay up late and craft one night! I wanted a Valentine's-ish (probably not a word, but, oh well, I'm not using it in Scrabble!) decoration. I saw a yarn wreath on Pinterest that I really liked so I decided to give it a go. Here is my inspiration:
I didn't have berries to make it all fancy and my accent yarn could have had a bit more texture but overall, I'm pretty pleased! One thing I would change if I ever do another one is the size of the wreath form. This one is 18" but I would use a 14" next time. With the yarn so tight on the form, it leaves a lot of space in the middle!
Anyway, that's my first home decor Pinterest completed project! One down, many more to go!
p.s. Kirra just came up as I was finishing this post. She saw both wreaths and announced she likes mine better! Gotta love that!

Princess Land
Kirra is very into playing princess lately. Grandma helped the cause by refreshing the princess dress supply for her birthday - last year's dresses were in shreds! And then Aunt Brandie supplied a vanity and mirror for Christmas. And to top it off, Grandpa Thom sent money for a Christmas Shopping Trip! Kirra choose a Tangled doll (now called Tangled Daughter) and another princess dress (Tangled, of course).
Here are some pictures of Kirra's favorite part of the house. Note the sparkly pink butterflies - also a new favorite!
And Aunt Kelly helped pretty up the room with her Christmas present, too - a custom hairclip holder!
Of course, it's always nice for a princess to have a co-conspirator. Luckily, Laine, our next door neighbor, loves to play princess, too. Here are a few pictures of the princesses/monkeys in action!
I'm pretty sure that standing on the handle bars of a wiggle car is not recommended by the manufacturer but try telling them that!
And finally, a princess needs to in danger to be rescued, right? Well, Corbin, Connor and Bode were happy to comply last weekend.
Don't worry - I made them untie the girls right after I got the pictures!

Arizona Adventuring
So now that the holidays are over, we have decided that it's time to start exploring our new state (or new to everyone but Ken!) And boy, was this a weekend of adventures!
On Saturday morning, we took the kids a few miles down the road to the White Tank Mountain Regional Park. We choose the Waterfall Trail for our first foray into hiking. It's a short 1 mile loop. Armed with binoculars, camo vests, water and granola bars, we set out!
The kids were particularly intrigued by the "Beward of Mountain Lions" sign. They kept asking when we would see the King of the Mountain. Ken assured them that there was no danger of seeing a mountian lion given how loud they were being!
And they were off!

We had a blast climbing the rocks.

Headed back down the trail. Can you tell that Kirra is frumping? She was "tired of walking" but said she had enough energy to play on the playground at the bottom of the trail. :)

And we wrap up the hike with a "kid soda" (aka Root Beer) and chocolate. Cheers!
And, as promised, we hit the playground for a few minutes before heading home to clean the garage!
In addition to cleaning the garage, the kids helped Ken sweep up a bunch of leaves that had accumulated around our neighbor Claire's house. We had a hard time convincing them that jumping in a pile of leaves on concrete wasn't a good idea!
So that was Saturday. And I know what you're thinking - what a busy weekend. But wait, there's more!
Sunday morning after church we decided that we should head to Prescott, a short 100 mile drive, for lunch! The ride there was uneventful. We had lunch at The Palace Saloon, an awesome saloon that was built in 1901. I'm not sure what the kids liked more - the "cowboy doors," aka swinging doors, or the plastic glasses with flashing lights that their Shirley Temples came.
After an awesome lunch, we headed home the long way. When we came across dirt road to Wolf Creek, Ken couldn't resist. We had a great time bouncing along the road for the first 8 or 9 miles. It was sunny and warm and the view was wonderful.

Then we started to see snow. The kids were upset that we hadn't brought their snow boots and sled!
Then we turned a corner onto the north side of the mountain. It was quite a bit cooler and we were seeing more snow and ice.
Everything was going fine until we turned a corner and came across a group of teenagers that were stuck.
a tree that had fallen across the road in the 30 minutes or so since we had passed this exact spot! Fortunately, there was another explorer who had come up to the tree and he had a rope! First Ken had to help free the end of the tree.
Then they used the rope to pull the tree off the road.
So that was our weekend of adventuring in Arizona! I wonder where we'll end up next weekend!

Based on our experience on the forest service roads this weekend, the kids have decided that we need 2 types of kits when we go exploring. Here they are:
Emergency Kit
* Saw (they wanted to cut the tree!)
* Rope (because when a tree falls in the forest, it can block a road!)
* Shovel (for digging teenagers out of the snow)
* Granola Bars (everyone got a little hungry)
* Water (and thirsty)
* Camping stove (for heating water)
* Oatmeal (in case we ever have to spend the night)
* Blankets (same as oatmeal)
Adventure Kit
* Snow Jackets
* Snow Boots
* Snow Gloves
* Sled (Corbin said for moving rocks, Connor said for sliding down hills)
So that was our weekend of adventuring in Arizona! I wonder where we'll end up next weekend!

1st Attempt at Blogging!
I was sorting pictures to email to my Mom and realized that it would be much easier to just post them somewhere and let anyone who cares about us see them! So, here's my first blog attempt.
Last weekend was Kirra's 4th birthday. We had a "Cupcakes in the Cul de Sac" party Friday after school with our new friends, the Joncas'. Then we took the kids up to see snow and they had a blast. Then headed home for presents and more cupcakes. It was a great weekend.

Kirra was very pleased with the whole day. Laine came dressed up because she heard it was a princess party! So cute.
Ken picked out a sock monkey for Kirra. She obviously loves it!
Connor zooming down the "hill." It wasn't much of a hill but provided plenty of excitement for 4 and 5 year olds!

I just love the Arizona skies. They are so clear and the clouds so beautiful. I have a feeling I'm going to be taking a lot of sky pictures.
